Questions

Common questions about learning Italian

What is the difference between essere and stare?

Essere describes identity: Sono Anna — I am Anna. Stare appears in expressions about how you are: Sto bene — I am well. Learn these complete phrases first; the two verbs are not interchangeable in every sentence.

Is Italian easy to pronounce?

Italian reading is regular: letters keep their value, and stress is predictable in most words. Learners usually spend their time on vocabulary and word endings rather than on reading rules.

Which Italian words should I learn first?

Greetings, food and drink, numbers, directions and travel words. They come up constantly and let you build usable sentences from the first week.

How do I practise Italian vocabulary without a teacher?

Write a short phrase and its meaning in a notebook, cover the translation and try recalling it the next day. Practise saying the phrase aloud. Italian flashcards and word pages are not currently available here.
